5 New Year’s Celebrations You Won’t Want to Miss

The dawn of a new year brings with it a clear mind and new opportunities. For those reasons, it’s not a surprise that just about everyone wants to mark the event with an epic party. Thankfully, there are a few cities that take the commemoration to new levels. If you want to make the most of your New Year’s celebration, visit one of these five cities.

New York City

New York City knows how to throw a party, and the Big Apple pulls out all the stops on New Year’s Eve. For the quintessential New York experience, head to Times Square for the Ball Drop. Since 1907, this annual tradition has become one of the most-watched and visited festivities in the world. In fact, you can expect a crowd of around one million people to help you ring in the new year.

If sitting in the chilly New York air isn’t how you want to spend the day, hit up one of the many ticketed parties in the area. Many restaurants, clubs, and bars offer special events throughout the evening, and if you choose the right spot, you can still have a full view of the Ball Drop at midnight. Or, skip the crowds altogether and enjoy the midnight fireworks display from the water. There are multiple dinner cruises available in New York Harbor that allow you to relax, dance, and drink the night away with your favorite people.

Dallas

You know what they say: “Everything is bigger in Texas,” and that sentiment rings true with Dallas’ New Year’s celebration. When the clock strikes midnight, a huge fireworks show is presented over Reunion Tower, which offers a 360-degree viewing angle throughout the city. For the best views, find a spot on the Trinity River.

If you want to join the “go big or go home” mentality, head to Champagne Life: ROYALTY at The Castle at the Old Red Museum. This huge open-bar celebration offers four floors of dancing, live music, and food. Boasting a roaring 20s theme, the black-tie affair also features a red-carpet entrance and complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Want to skip the drinks? Ecstatic Dance Dallas offers an alcohol-free dance party with a henna station, meditation, and art exhibits.

New Orleans

If you’ve ever been to Mardi Gras, then you know that New Orleans knows how to have fun, and a New Year’s celebration isn’t an exception. The city celebrates with a huge (and free) party in the French Quarter at Jackson Square. Live music and performances, along with plenty of food and drinks opportunities, take the lead up until the final countdown at midnight, which is followed by a fireworks show.

Celebrating with family? New Orleans also offers plenty of kid-friendly fun before the sitter arrives. The Louisiana Children’s Museum hosts a New Year’s Eve Kids’ Countdown to Noon in the morning. The Audubon Zoo is home to a similar arrangement with their Zoo Year’s Eve party. In the afternoon, head to the French Quarter to catch the New Year’s Eve Parade.

San Francisco

If you want a laid-back New Year’s celebration, then put San Francisco at the top of your travel list. The city’s festivities start out relatively tame at Dolores Park, where locals enjoy views of the city at sunset while sipping on champagne and relaxing. You can even bring a picnic to energize for the night ahead. At dark, everyone heads to the Embarcadero for a midnight fireworks show. You can catch the show on Market Street near the Ferry Building or by grabbing a spot from one of the nearby hotels.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas’ NYE showcase rivals that of even New York City. To welcome in the New Year’s celebration, the city completely shuts down the Strip for pedestrian traffic. The evening is full of themed shows and special parties at all of the casinos, bars, and clubs, but they all lead up to one thing — fireworks.

At midnight, multiple casinos up and down the Strip provide a choreographed display consisting of over 80,000 fireworks. While you can watch the breathtaking event from the street with 300,000 of your fellow attendees, you also have the option to see it from the air. Both the High Roller observation wheel and Paris’ Eiffel Tower viewing deck offer elevated spots to celebrate and enjoy the festivities.
